Land acknowledgements -- statements that recognize Indigenous peoples dispossessed of their relationships with land by settler colonists -- can help to increase the visibility of Indigenous peoples and positively support them. The Maryland State Arts Council has consulted with Indigenous elders and leaders whose lands are now claimed by Maryland to develop a public resource on land acknowledgements, featuring statements, tribal histories and maps, key concepts, and research materials.
